All about our Speciality Instructor Hannah Blagnys

Hannah Blagnys' Background:
From a young age I have always wanted to dive. I didn’t realise there was an option of the junior open water and then had time taken up by exams so I finally got round to taking my open water in June 2005. I then took my Advanced Open Water on a family holiday in Lanzarote in August 2005 (never again will I take a course abroad!). Then came a few specialities and rescue diver in between other commitments. The rescue diver course was probably my favourite, made even more challenging by the deep snow that weekend at Capernwray. After rescue I went on my first diving holiday to Scapa Flow. This exceeded all expectations and made me even more enthusiastic about UK diving. Being the only girl on the trip was interesting but I’m getting used to being in the minority now!

As I am currently training to become a doctor, EFR instructor was a natural progression. From this I realised that I enjoyed teaching and so after gaining the Master Scuba Diver rating I chose to take the professional route and went on to Divemaster. Around this time I started working at the dive-centre on Saturdays. As well as it being good fun this taught me a lot about the dive industry and dive education. Through “DM-ing” at most pool sessions and weekends in open water I qualified as a DM in August 2006. I think that being a Divemaster is one of the most rewarding roles in diving and one I would thoroughly recommend. Although I really enjoyed being a DM I wanted to be able to teach more at the dive centre and in open water. I therefore, with a little encouragement from Neil and Dale (!?!), took my instructor course and exams in October. I then went on to Speciality Instructor and soon should have my Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating

I now teach whenever possible as well as continuing my own diving career. What next? Soon I will be doing some DAN courses and then things will go from there. In the long run I would like to get into the medical side of diving, hopefully doing some hyperbaric training when I qualify as a doctor in 2009. Dive medical bookings soon being taken!

What I do @ Aquatic Adventures:
At Aquatic Adventures I am one of the many instructors helping out through teaching, pool sessions and open water diving. I also teach a lot of first aid as this is an area I am really interested in.

I've helped Andy and Neil to put this website together (so any mistakes found are probably down to me )
